Edward Elgar: Chanson de Nuit  and Chanson de Matin  for Violin and Piano, op. 15

21pp. (VI+9+3+3)

ISMN: 979‑0‑2018‑1477‑3

Like Salut d’Amour , Chanson de Nuit  and Chanson de Matin  are among Elgar’s most popular works, and are often performed together. It is, therefore, almost surprising that Elgar completed Chanson de Nuit  in 1897 as a single piece and shortly afterwards offered it to his publisher Novello. It was not until eighteen months later the he submitted Chanson de Matin , writing to Novello on that occasion: “I see from my sketch (which I found last week & have since completed) that this piece was intended to be a companion to the one you have already”.

These two evergreens of the violin repertoire are presented in Henle Urtext and have been rigorously prepared using the first editions.
